Building something genuinely new in aerial robotics requires a different kind of work. Not a roadmap with milestones, but a motion: getting early-stage capabilities into real industrial environments before they’re finished, learning from operators who push them to their limits, and turning what works into products the industry can rely on.
Today we’re introducing Voliro Lab, a dedicated layer for developing new aerial capabilities at the frontier of what the Voliro T can do.
At the frontier of aerial robotics, learning speed matters more than predictable performance. Voliro Lab is where we find out the next benchmark faster than anyone else, and directly with the Voliro T operators who push it there in real industrial environments.” — Timo Müller, CEO and Co-founder, Voliro
Voliro Lab projects start from real industry needs, operators and asset owners who’ve hit a challenge no existing solution can handle, or technologies already proven in handheld inspections that our team believes could work on an aerial platform.
We develop in simulation and controlled conditions first, running scenarios, finding edges, breaking things deliberately. Once we understand the basic limits, we bring a capability into real industrial environments with a small group of Voliro T operators willing to fly something early and tell us honestly what they find. That feedback determines whether a capability continues, pivots, or gets archived.
The Voliro operators who are part of that process will be there for the breakthrough with access to capabilities that don’t exist anywhere else, shaping what the industry will rely on years from now.
Some capabilities will graduate into proven Voliro capabilities. Some will get archived. Both are valid outcomes.
Voliro Lab projects can have rough edges but they cannot be unsafe. Ever.
Every Lab capability carries a bold yellow Lab badge, on the hardware, in the UI, in release notes, and across all documentation. It means one thing: this capability is active, out in the field, and still being shaped. It is always accompanied by a maturity disclaimer: “Experimental, opt-in feature. Behavior may change. Operates within a defined safety envelope.”
Following Voliro Lab content means getting a view of aerial robotics that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Expect field footage of capabilities in early deployment, behind-the-scenes from our R&D team as they develop and test, and honest updates on what’s working and what isn’t.
Most of what you’ll see will be capabilities that are ahead of anything available on the market. Some will graduate into Voliro products. Some won’t. Either way, you’ll see it happen in real time, on real assets, with real operators.
That’s what makes it worth following:
